The crew is back together, this time in Memphis!
On our walk to the restaurant Ollie found some cool Autumn leaves
It was pretty short walk over to LOCAL On The Square
The first of many stops for some good Memphis food
Back at the house we rented Evie tried her best to make Harper (Bobo) play with her
It didn’t take long for all the kids to warm up to eachother
First night there we went to the big Bass Pro Pyramid
Wendell and Ollie noticed you could climb into these boats
So of course all the kids wanted to get in there
They had all kinds of vehicles for them to try and drive
A fun night for the kids to run around this giant place
After that we had to try some of that famous Memphis barbecue, so went downtown to Rendezvous, great ribs
Enjoying some breakfast on our first Memphis morning
The three girls decided to do their own brunch thing on the floor
In 37 degree weather we walked over to the Memphis Zoo, which was only 1 mile from the house
We saw lots of strange creatures, like this Aardvark
And there were these awesome bongo drums set up
We saw wolves, and got to see/hear them howl live in-person
These bald eagles were so huge
This polar bear kept faking us out, acting like he would jump in the water then backing out at the last second
They were very excited to see the giraffes
Bye Mr. Giraffe!
Next stop was the land of China
And they had pandas! This fella was covered in bamboo and just chowing down.
I suppose since we got there early and the weather was cold we were the only ones there looking at the pandas for a little bit, it was so great. This was the male panda, Le Le.
The smaller female panda, Ya Ya, must have thought it was too chilly outside so we got to watch her enjoy her bamboo in her cozy indoor habitat
Panda hugs!
We walked 5.3 miles that day. So we were glad to be back relaxing at the house, enjoying some outside time before the big LSU/Bama game.
We had so much fun watching LSU completely own that game and finally beat Alabama
Evie got to stay up past her bedtime and was delirious with excitement after the big win
The kids enjoying the front yard the next morning, before getting our day started
On Sunday we went over to the famous Beale Street
But first we wondered down Main Street for a bit
We found this cool alley, but nobody was brave enough to go walk in there
Ollie and Wendell found this crazy pyramid when we passed the Court Square
At first they tried to block the entrance
But eventually they let their little sisters come play in there
Ollie and Wendell gathered lots of “fire wood” so they could make a fire in the pyramid
Mommy taught Evie some chess strategies
Evie wanted to ride with her pal Bobo in the 2-seat stroller
The Civic Center Plaza had all of these flags from countries around the world
And there was this old bell
They had lots of fun playing there while we waited for the trolley
The parents got a much needed break, and the kids loved looking out the window
Our next stop was the Lorraine Motel
This is the balcony where Martin Luther King was shot, very surreal to see since it looks just like it did in 1968.
Passed by this huge Elvis statue so of course we had to take a photo with the King of Rock’N’Roll
Then it was back to actually go see Beale Street
We stopped for lunch at Silky O’Sullivan’s
This is a unique place because they have actual live goats!
Luckily there weren’t many other customers so the kids were able to have fun and play in the courtyard patio
Daddy’s next feat of strength was to pull all four kids in the wagon at the same time back to the car. We walked 5.3 miles again that day, we were feeling pretty whooped at this point
Our last dinner in Memphis was Central BBQ, the food was great, ribs and wings!
Wendell was very sweet to Ollie, sharing his video he was watching. After 3 days together in Memphis they were all best friends again, just like last time they saw eachother.
Always fun visiting new cities with the Crawfords, can’t wait till the next one!
Wow!!! What a vacation! You’ll managed to pack a lot of fun in a few short daysI can’t wait to see you both to find out your favorite animal at the zoo. Mine would be the Panda Bears!
